What makes bad copy

If your copy reads badly, it will detract from the message you're trying to get across.

What should you watch out for?

Avoid clichés like the plague. (At no time did the line "WritingIT - for all your copywriting needs" ever win me any business!)
Don't use too many words. If you mean 'now', don't say 'at this moment in time'. Keep your copy lean.

Make sure you say what you mean. Ambiguity can lose your readers' interest - and consequently sales.

Avoid hype and overblown language. Use plain English to get your meaning across.
Don't use pretentious or pompous language. It can creep into the written word far too easily.
Avoid repetition, waffle and redundant words.

When you've finished writing, take out as many words as you can without changing the meaning. You'll be surprised how many you can lose.
